Punch - Not So Posi After All
‘I know I must unfurl a finger. One by one. Knuckles white. But this is one fight I just can’t win. When it’s one sided it’s no fun and it’s not fair. So why can’t I just let go? I need to take a step back. I’m giving more than I get. Is it tradition or loyalty? Just let go.’
Can’t stop listening to Punch this band is awesome!!!

Forgot about this until I was talking to one of my roommates about it. This is my old band Tiny Teeth. We recorded a whole full length, but never finished it due to a shitty break-up. I recorded vocals over a couple songs I sang on just for fun a while ago. This song’s kinda cheesy lyrically, but it’s kinda fitting for where I am in life right now.
Lyrics
Do you remember all of the past times that we passed on to feel safe? Why can’t we go to anywhere where the air’s good and we can thrive, or just survive? I’m not convinced that we can’t go anywhere where we can thrive, and not just survive. Let’s not just survive.
The never released/never finished CD is so good. If it were done the world couldn’t take it. Fucking tight.
I’m completely floored of what Tallahassee can do. We have such a tight knit community and people going back-and-forth doing a lot of stuff. I was thinking about it the other night when I was watching my friends’ band Letters Home play. The drummer I looked up to growing up and would learn his drum parts for So Byzantine and Crucial EP. I had a very nostalgic moment and it was awesome. There are so many people that are talented in this city and I can’t imagine growing up anywhere else. It’s going to be very hard leaving this city. People really take this city for granted, so many awesome kids, places to explore, new music to be exposed to. I’m so honored to be apart of a community willing to take out their own time and money to only improve this city. It’s fucking tight that there is such a separation of all the bullshit college aspect of this town.
So awesome. Tallahassee #1 forever.
P.S. - Stoked on a new community mental health program/space/an outlet whatever it will become. It kind of triggered my head and made me think that there are so many radical people and kids willing to help. Awesome.

Legitimately terrifying. Were they after cows too?
HOLY FUCK ALIENS FUCK YEAH!!!!!
I rarely write anything about my feelings on hardcore because more often than not it’s pretty depressing. I’m not really sure why it always ends up being that way. I am pretty happy with the Tallahassee hardcore scene and the Florida hardcore scene as a whole and I really value what we’ve built. Still, there are bands I miss watching that inspired me in ways other bands haven’t been able to since.
DEA was a straight edge band from Tallahassee and, I can’t overstate this enough, if you live in Florida and you never got a chance to see them play you really missed out. This show in particular was at a spot called The Shed where we did an enormous amount of shows. The Outbreak/Cruel Hand/No Turning Back tour happened there, as well as the Brick/Backtrack/Petition tour and those two shows are a couple of my fondest memories. Those particular gigs that had insane turnouts and were totally crazy. But the show in the video was much smaller scale, with area bands No Harm Done and Change of Ideas playing.
What I think is so special about the show in this video is the fact that bands played that weren’t enormously nationally popular and yet the turnout and vibe was still excellent. It’s not DEA opening up for some crazy hyped band that everyone is excited to see, DEA played shows and got people excited on their own steam. That’s something I sorely miss. Lately it seems like less popular bands play to small crowds with small reactions, and I think it took a special local band like DEA to really get people excited.
My favorite DEA song was For You, off the demo (at 5:37 in the video) and it’s particularly depressing how applicable the songs lyrics have become to the band and to Kyle, the guy who wrote it. Responsibilities in life come, I understand, and some people can’t find time to dedicate to playing in a band or even coming to shows. What’s worse is when those people fade out of your life all together. And although I understand it, that doesn’t make the situation suck any less. What I wouldn’t give to hear them play that song one last time.
Really miss this band, was listening to them the other day this shit is sooo rad! Very fortunate I was able to see them a couple of times.
